- Eagle Eye: Guatemala is known for its violent past of political turmoil and natural disasters (in particular earthquakes and volcanic eruptions). During the 1980's and 90's political upheaval, more than 450 Mayan villages were destroyed and over 1 million people became internal and external refugees. The USA government provided support to Guatemalan military forces that took part in the brutal civilian killings.
